Abstract
High-speed campus network infrastructure is imperative to sustain digital academic services, research repositories, and interactive videoconferencing workloads. Without robust bandwidth provisioning, unmanaged packet transmission leads to bottlenecking, severe jitter, and transmission loss. This study analyzes and contrasts bandwidth management efficacy between Simple Queue and Hierarchical Queue Tree architectures deployed on MikroTik RouterOS evaluated across TIPHON Quality of Service (QoS) benchmarks. Performance metrics—encompassing Throughput, Packet Latency, Jitter, and Packet Loss—were captured via Wireshark and Axence NetTools under varying network saturations. Experimental results demonstrate that Queue Tree decisively outperforms Simple Queue under peak campus loads, sustaining an average throughput efficiency of 87.4% (TIPHON Excellent), latency of 38.2 ms (Index 4), jitter of 12.5 ms (Index 4), and packet loss of merely 0.42%. Conversely, Simple Queue yielded 3.18% packet loss and 96.4 ms latency. Implementing Queue Tree coupled with Per Connection Queue (PCQ) scheduling ensures equitable traffic fairness for university computing environments.
